Mystery #1: The Mirror Image. Is Subaru Actually the Sage Flugel?

 

Let us start with a question from the past: who is the legendary Sage, Flugel? He helped lock away the Witch of Envy around four centuries.. The more we learn about Flugel the more it seems like he is connected to Natsuki Subaru.

 

There are some things in the story that we should consider:

The Name Game: The name "Subaru" in Japanese means the Pleiades star cluster. When Subaru goes to the Pleiades Watchtower he finds out it has the name as him. Is this a coincidence or was it built for him?

Shaula’s Reaction: When Shaula meets Subaru she does not care that he is not good at fighting or that he wears clothes. She thinks he is her master, Flugel because he smells like a Witch.

The Tree of the Past: Flugel planted a tree called Flugel’s Tree, which Subaru used to defeat the White Whale. It seems like the tree was put there for Subaru to use in the future.

 

Think about this: is Subaru the person as Flugel but born again? Did Subaru go back in time around four hundred years live a life, as the Sage and leave clues for himself to follow? Look at how Shaula talks about her master. Ask yourself if you are seeing Subarus past or his future.

Mystery number 2 is called The Paradox. It is about Emilia, Satella and the Timeline Loop.

 

We are all aware of the scary fact: Emilia looks exactly like Satella, who is the Witch of Envy. Emilia and Satella have the silver hair, the same amethyst eyes and they are both half-elf.. The connection between Emilia and Satella goes much deeper than just looking like family members.

 

Satella loves Subaru in a strong way. Her love for him is unconditional it is obsessive. It is very
personal. However when Subaru first came to this world he had never met Satella before. So how can Satella love Subaru much if they had never met until he arrived in this world?

 

Let us look at the way things are related. If the theory about Flugel is true and Flugel loved Satella four hundred years ago then it is similar to the way Subaru wants to protect Emilia today. Subaru really wants to protect Emilia. He will do anything to keep her safe.

 

Now we have to ask ourselves what is Emilia? Is Emilia a copy of Satella made to be a body for the Witch who's trapped?. Is Emilia actually Satella, from a different timeline, a timeline that is not good?

 

If we watch the scenes again where Satella talks to Subaru in the castle of dreams we should listen to how she talks to him. Satella does not talk to Subaru like he is a stranger she talks to him like someone who has seen him die times before. So what do you think will happen if Subaru is able to save Emilia? Will Emilia become the Witch. Will she be able to stop the loop from happening?

Mystery number 3: The Collector. What's the real reason for Return by Death?

 

We thought Return by Death was a terrible curse that Satella put on Subaru to keep him with her.. When we look at how magic works in this world we see something different.

Subaru is special because his body can take in Witch Factors easily. Every time someone from the Witch Cult who's an Archbishop dies Subaru gets their power inside him.

The Sage needs to be able to take in all Witch Factors without any problems. This is what the old stories say.

Return by Death is like a tool made for Subaru. It lets him try again and again until he wins. This means two things: Subaru will never really. He will always beat the Archbishops and get their powers one by one.

So is Return, by Death a curse?. Is it a very smart and harsh training program that Flugel and Satella left for Subaru? Are they using Subarus pain to make him the best weapon, one that can hold all the Witch Factors that exist?
